Responsive Call to Worship: Exodus 33:18-19; Psalm 86:15
Leader: Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”
All: And He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name “The LORD”. And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”
Leader: But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
Prayer of Adoration
Hymn of Praise: Hymnal #705 “I Know Whom I Have Believed”
We Confess Our Faith
Responsive Reading: Heidelberg Catechism #60 & #63
Leader: How are you righteous before God?
All: God without any merit of mine, of mere grace, grants and imputes to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never committed nor had any sin, and had myself accomplished all the obedience which Christ has fulfilled for me; if only I accept such benefit with a believing heart.
Leader: Do our good works merit nothing, even though it is God’s will to reward them in this life and in that life which is to come?
All: The reward comes not of merit, but of grace.
We Confess Our Sin
Corporate Prayer of Confession: from the Book of Common Prayer
All: Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires are known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, so that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Silent Confession of Sin
Responsive Assurance of Pardon: Heidelberg Catechism #56
Leader: What do you believe concerning the “forgiveness of sins”?
All: That God, for the sake of Christ’s satisfaction, will no more remember my sins, nor the sinful nature with which I have to struggle all my life long; but graciously imputes to me the righteousness of Christ, that I may nevermore come into condemnation.
