Responsive Call to Worship: Hebrews 1: 3, Colossians 1: 15 – 20

Leader: Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

All:         He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Leader: After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

All:         And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.  For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,  and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Prayer of Adoration

Hymn of Praise: Hymnal #310 Rejoice, the Lord Is King

We Confess Our Sin

Silent Confession of Sin

Corporate Prayer of Confession Adapted from The Valley of Vision: The Broken Heart

Responsive Assurance of Pardon: Westminster Shorter Catechism 33 and 34, Galatians 3: 24

Leader: What is justification?

All:         Justification is an act of God’s free grace, wherein he pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in His sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.

Leader: What is adoption?

All:         Adoption is an act of God’s free grace, whereby we are received into the number, and have a right to all the privileges, of the sons of God.

Leader: The law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.

All:         But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus we are all sons of God, through faith.

Leader: For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

All:         And if we are Christ’s, then we are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.
