Responsive Call to Worship: Psalm 130

Leader: Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!  O Lord, hear my voice!  Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

All:         If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?  But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.

Leader: I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning.

All:         All God’s people, hope in the Lord!  For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. And he will redeem His people from all their iniquities.

Prayer of Adoration

Hymn of Praise: Hymnal #302 Come, Christians, Join to Sing

We Confess Our Sin

Responsive Reading: Psalm 123: 1 – 3

Leader:    To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!

All:            Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he has mercy upon us.  Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us

Prayer of Confession

Silent Confession of Sin

Responsive Assurance of Pardon: Heidelberg Catechism #1

Leader: What is your only comfort in life and death?

All:         That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.  He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,  and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head;  indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.  Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Hymn of Assurance: Songs of Faith #5 Grace Unmeasured

We Give Thanks To The Lord

Tithes and Offerings

Offertory: Joshua Fit de  Battle of Jericho-  Negro Spiritual. The lyrics allude to the biblical story of the Battle of Jericho in which Joshua led the Israelites against Canaan. (Joshua 6:15-21). Slaves would sing songs of survival; that gave courage to go on living when life seemed to be nothing but pain. There are 15 verses.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
