Responsive Reading: Heidelberg Catechism #21
Leader: What is true faith?
All: True faith is not only a certain knowledge whereby I hold for truth all that God has revealed to us in His Word; but also a hearty trust, which the Holy Spirit works in me by the Gospel, that not only to others, but to me also, forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness and salvation are freely given by God, merely of grace, only for the sake of Christ’s merits.
We Confess Our Sin
Corporate Confession of Sin: From the Book of Common Prayer
All: Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires are known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, so that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Silent Confession of Sin
Responsive Assurance of Pardon: Matthew 11:28-30
Leader: Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
All: Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
